शततमः सर्गः — Rāma Questions Bharata on Rājadharma
Governance, Counsel, and Public Welfare
सा तात कच्चित्कौसल्या सुमित्रा च प्रजावती।सुखिनी कच्चिदार्या च देवी नन्दति कैकयी।।।।
sā tāta kaccit kausalyā sumitrā ca prajāvatī | sukhinī kaccid āryā ca devī nandati kaikeyī ||
“亲爱的兄长,憍萨利耶可安好?苏蜜多罗也安好、得有贤子之福吗?那位高贵的王后凯凯伊,仍然心安喜悦吗?”
Dear child! I trust, Kausalya and Sumitra, mothers of an excellent progeny are happy. I trust, the noble queen Kaikeyi is happy too.
Even amid personal suffering, dharma requires care for others’ welfare—especially elders and family members—showing that righteousness includes sustained concern and courtesy.
After meeting Bharata, Rāma inquires about the well-being of the queens back in Ayodhyā, including Kaikeyī.
Rāma’s magnanimity and self-restraint: he asks about Kaikeyī’s welfare without bitterness, maintaining familial propriety (maryādā).
