Prayaga-mahatmya
Glory of Prayaga and the Magha Bath at Triveni
इति दृष्ट्वा हि माहात्म्य क्षेत्रस्य कथमुच्यते । माघः सितासिते भद्रे राजसूयसमो न च ॥ ८९ ॥
iti dṛṣṭvā hi māhātmya kṣetrasya kathamucyate | māghaḥ sitāsite bhadre rājasūyasamo na ca || 89 ||
既已如此目睹此圣地的伟大,其功德荣耀又怎能尽述?吉祥者啊,于摩伽月,无论白半月或黑半月,所得福德实可比肩王祭(Rājasūya),毫不逊色。
Sage Narada (continuing the kshetra-mahatmya narration, addressed to an auspicious listener)
Vrata: Māgha-snāna (Māgha observance)
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It elevates tīrtha-mahātmya by stating that the sanctity of the place is beyond full verbal description and that Māgha observances there yield merit comparable to a major royal Vedic sacrifice (Rājasūya).
By valuing simple sacred-time and sacred-place practices (Māgha in a tīrtha) as equal to grand sacrifices, it supports bhakti-oriented access to merit through reverent observance rather than only costly ritual power.
It reflects calendrical ritual timing—observance in Māgha across both pakṣas (śukla and kṛṣṇa)—a practical application aligned with Jyotiṣa-style time-reckoning used to schedule vrata and tīrtha rites.
