The Account of Hanumān
सनत्कुमार उवाच । अथापरं वायुसूनोश्चरितं पापनाशनम् । यदुक्तं स्वासु रामेण आनन्दवनवासिना ॥ १ ॥
sanatkumāra uvāca | athāparaṃ vāyusūnoścaritaṃ pāpanāśanam | yaduktaṃ svāsu rāmeṇa ānandavanavāsinā || 1 ||
萨那特库玛罗说道:现在我将再叙一段——风神伐由之子的生平事迹,能灭除罪垢;正如住于阿难陀林(喜乐之林)的罗摩在其亲众之间所宣说。
Sanatkumara
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It introduces a pāpa-nāśana (sin-destroying) sacred narrative—Hanumān’s deeds—framed as authoritative because it is connected to Rāma’s own telling, making the upcoming account a devotional purifier (kathā-śravaṇa-phala).
By foregrounding Hanumān (Vāyu’s son) and Rāma together, the verse signals bhakti through śravaṇa (hearing) of the Lord’s līlā and the exemplary devotion of His servant—an accessible devotional practice emphasized across Purāṇic teaching.
This verse functions as a narrative preface rather than a technical Vedāṅga instruction; the practical takeaway is the Purāṇic method of transmission—authoritative speech (uktam) and lineage of narration—used to validate teachings and ritual/ethical outcomes.
