समांकतोऽथो वर्गस्यात्तमेवाहुः कृतिं बुधाः । अंत्यात्तु विषमात्त्यक्त्वा कृतिं मूलंन्यसेत्पृथक् ॥ १६ ॥

Transliteration

samāṃkato'tho vargasyāttamevāhuḥ kṛtiṃ budhāḥ | aṃtyāttu viṣamāttyaktvā kṛtiṃ mūlaṃnyasetpṛthak || 16 ||

Translation

由相等（偶）的数字可得平方；智者称之为“kṛti”（平方）。但若末位数字为奇数，则舍去该末位，应将“kṛti”另置为独立的“mūla”（根/基）部分。
