Anuśāsana-parva 17
बहुधा निन्दित: शर्व: शड्कर: शड्करो5धन: । अमरेशो महादेवो विश्वदेव: सुरारिहा
bahudhā ninditaḥ śarvaḥ śaṅkaraḥ śaṅkaro 'dhanaḥ | amareśo mahādevo viśvadevaḥ surārihā ||
风神说道:“纵然沙尔瓦(Śarva)曾被达克沙(Dakṣa)及其同党以种种方式诋毁,祂仍是沙尔瓦——在劫末溶解之时的毁灭者;是商羯罗(Śaṅkara)——赐福者;又是商羯罗——令信众欢悦者;是‘无财者’——不系于世间资财;是诸天之主;是大天(Mahādeva)——连诸神亦当礼敬者;是为整个宇宙所崇奉之神;亦是诛灭诸天之敌者。”
वायुदेव उवाच
Worldly blame does not diminish true greatness: the verse reframes criticism of Śiva by listing his essential qualities—auspiciousness, protection of devotees, renunciation of worldly wealth, cosmic sovereignty, and the upholding of divine order by destroying hostile forces.
Vāyu responds to the context of Dakṣa’s party disparaging Śiva, asserting that despite such censure, Śiva’s established nature and roles remain supreme, expressed through a chain of honorific names (epithets).
