Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
अहमासं मनुष्यो वै शूद्रो बहुधन: प्रभो । अब्रद्याण्यो नृशंसश्न कदर्यो वृद्धिजीवन:
aham āsaṁ manuṣyo vai śūdro bahu-dhanaḥ prabho | abrāhmaṇyo nṛśaṁsaś ca kadaryo vṛddhi-jīvanaḥ prabho ||
那昆虫说道：“主啊，在前世我曾为人——确是一位极其富有的首陀罗（Śūdra）。我对婆罗门（Brāhmaṇa）毫无敬意；我性情残酷无情，吝啬刻薄，并以放债取利为生。正因如此行径，我才堕入这般卑下的境地。”
