Type: tirtha
Listener: Yudhiṣṭhira
Scene: A pilgrim fasting at a riverbank, clean and composed, holding a water-pot; in the background, a symbolic vignette of a Vedic sacrifice (altar, priests) fades like a metaphor—showing equivalence of fruits.
Simple ascetic observance at a tīrtha—when grounded in truth and purity—can yield merit comparable to major Vedic rites.
Dāru-tīrtha, in whose context this fasting-vrata is being praised.
Perform upavāsa (fasting) with commitment to satya (truth) and śauca (purity); it grants Sautrāmaṇi-like merit.
