Determination of Śiva as Higher and Lower Brahman
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
It frames Īśvara (Shiva) as the indwelling Lord who can be understood both as the universal principle present in all beings and as the distinct reality that shines through individual forms—guiding the seeker from outer diversity to inner oneness.
Linga worship uses a single sacred form to point to the universal presence of Shiva (jāti) within every embodied being (piṇḍa), while still allowing devotion to Shiva as personally approachable (vyakti) in saguna worship.
Meditate during japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) that the same Shiva-consciousness persists in all bodies; support this with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and steady breath-awareness to internalize the Lord as the indweller.
