It affirms Śiva and Śivā as the supreme protectors (Pati) whose sanctioned divine powers remove fear and obstacles; protection is received by reverently aligning oneself with their ājñā (divine ordinance).
In Saguna worship, devotees approach Śiva (often through the Liṅga) as the accessible Lord who actively protects; the verse reflects trusting devotion where Śiva-Śakti’s commanded powers guard the worshipper.
A practical takeaway is to recite a Śiva-Śakti protection prayer while performing Liṅga-pūjā, applying Tripuṇḍra (bhasma), and repeating the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” dedicating oneself to Śiva’s injunction (ājñā).
