Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Sthala Purana: Not a specific Jyotirliṅga episode; the verse gives a general āgama-aligned procedure of liṅga-pūjā where the upacāra-vessel is ritually ‘made to circle’ the liṅga with mantra, mirroring temple consecration etiquette.
Significance: Establishes correct paddhati (krama) and mantra-sambandha in worship; said to make the offering ‘fit’ (yogya) and to align the worshipper with Śiva’s grace.
It teaches that outer ritual becomes spiritually effective when aligned with inner mantra-power: the devotee sanctifies action through ordered movement, reverence (pradakṣiṇā), and the mūla-mantra, directing the mind toward Pati (Śiva) as the liberating Lord.
The Liṅga is treated as the sacred focal form (saguṇa upāsanā) through which the devotee approaches the transcendent Śiva; moving the vessel above the Liṅga and circumambulating affirms devotion, consecration, and the ritual recognition of Śiva’s presence.
Perform three clockwise revolutions (pradakṣiṇā-yoga) of the ritual vessel over/around the Liṅga while reciting the root-mantra (commonly aligned with Śiva’s mantra tradition, such as the Pañcākṣarī), keeping attention steady and reverent.
