Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva Purana teachings to the sages, as typical of the Vayu Samhita discourse flow)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Mantra: रुद्रनामैव
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
The verse teaches inner upliftment: social identity is secondary to spiritual refinement, and the awakening of “Rudra-hood” (alignment with Shiva’s consciousness) is accomplished through devotion centered on Rudra’s Name.
In Shaiva practice, Saguna worship (such as Linga-puja) is supported and completed by nāma-japa. The verse emphasizes that Rudra’s Name itself is a direct means to invoke Shiva’s grace and transform the devotee’s inner state.
Rudra-nāma japa (repetition of Shiva’s Name)—especially alongside Panchakshara-style devotion (e.g., “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”)—as a focused sādhana for purification and awakening Shiva-consciousness.
