FAQs

This verse introduces Shiva’s guidance on adhikāra (spiritual eligibility) and dharma: devotion should be grounded in right conduct and understanding, so the devotee becomes a fit vessel for Shiva’s grace (anugraha) and liberation-oriented practice.

By outlining who is “qualified” and what duties align with varṇa-dharma, Shiva frames Linga/Saguna worship as a disciplined path—devotion supported by purity, learning, and righteous living—rather than mere external ritual.

The verse signals preparation and proper conduct for Shaiva sādhanā—regular worship with mantra-japa (notably the Panchākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), along with dharmic living; specific items like bhasma or rudrākṣa are not stated in this line but are implied as part of qualified Shaiva observance in this section.
