Invocation, Sacred Setting, and the Arrival of Sūta
tatpurāṇasya cotpattiṃ bruvato me nibodhata | aṃgāni vedāścatvāro mīmāṃsānyāyavistaraḥ
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Sthala Purana: Not a sthala-purāṇa passage; it frames the Śiva Purāṇa’s authority as rooted in Veda, Vedāṅga, and śāstric reasoning (Mīmāṃsā–Nyāya).
Significance: Establishes śruti-smṛti consonance: hearing/understanding the Purāṇa as Veda-aligned is itself treated as a meritorious entry into Śaiva dharma and bhakti.
It establishes the Shiva Purana as rooted in Vedic revelation and disciplined reasoning, presenting Shaiva truth (Pati) as consistent with scriptural authority and sound inquiry.
By grounding the Purana in Veda, Mīmāṃsā, and Nyāya, it frames Linga-worship as a legitimate, scripturally supported path where Saguna Shiva is approached through authorized rites and meanings.
The immediate practice is śravaṇa (reverent listening) with attentive understanding; it implies approaching Shiva’s worship and mantra disciplines through proper scriptural study and correct reasoning.
