कर्णस्य दानप्रतिज्ञा–शल्योपदेश–वाक्ययुद्धम्

अन्वयु: समरे राजंस्ततो युद्धमवर्तत । राजन! तत्पश्चात् समस्त पाण्डव भी युधिष्ठिरको सब ओरसे घेरकर उनका अनुसरण करने लगे; फिर तो दोनों दलोंमें भारी युद्ध छिड़ गया
anvayuḥ samare rājan tato yuddham avartata | rājan tatpaścāt samastāḥ pāṇḍavā bhī yudhiṣṭhiram sarvataḥ gherayitvā tam anusaranti sma; tataḥ ubhayasainyayoḥ ghoraṃ yuddhaṃ samajāyata ||
Sañjaya nói: “Tâu Đại vương, họ thúc lên trên chiến địa, rồi cuộc giao tranh lại dâng trào. Sau đó, toàn thể các Pāṇḍava vây quanh Yudhiṣṭhira từ mọi phía và theo sát bên chàng; vì thế, một trận chiến dữ dội bùng nổ giữa hai đạo quân. Câu kệ nêu rõ bổn phận che chở của đồng đội—bảo vệ vị lãnh đạo chính trực—đồng thời cho thấy chỉ cần truy kích và bao vây khởi sự, quyết tâm tập thể có thể nhanh chóng làm bạo lực tăng vọt.”
