Nṛga-upākhyāna: Brāhmaṇa-sva and the Consequence of Misappropriated Gift-Cattle (कृकलास-रूपे नृगोपाख्यानम्)

न श्मशानपरीतां च न च पापनिषेविताम्‌ । जो भूमि ऊसर, जली हुई और श्मशानके निकट हो तथा जहाँ पापी पुरुष निवास करते हों, उसे ब्राह्मणको नहीं देना चाहिये

na śmaśānaparītāṃ ca na ca pāpaniṣevitām |

Bhīṣma nói: Không nên ban tặng—nhất là cho một brāhmaṇa—mảnh đất ở gần bãi hỏa táng, cũng không nên cho đất bị kẻ tội lỗi lui tới hay cư trú. Món tặng ấy trái với đạo lý, vì không thể làm chỗ nương tựa thanh tịnh và xứng đáng cho đời sống thiêng liêng cùng các nghi lễ.
