Cyavana Explains His Tests; Kuśika Seeks Brāhmaṇya for His Line (च्यवन–कुशिक संवादः)
निश्चित्य मनसा सर्व गुणदोषबलाबलम् | दग्धुकाम: कुलं सर्व कुशिकानां तपोधन:
niścitya manasā sarva-guṇa-doṣa-balābalam | dagdhukāmaḥ kulaṃ sarvaṃ kuśikānāṃ tapodhanaḥ |
Bhishma nói: Sau khi kiên quyết trong lòng—cân nhắc mọi công và tội, mọi mạnh và yếu—đạo sĩ Cyavana, kẻ nuôi ý định thiêu rụi toàn bộ dòng tộc Kushika, đã định đoạt. Bởi từ trước ông đã biết rằng, do mối liên minh hôn phối với một thiếu nữ thuộc dòng Kushika, trong gia tộc mình sẽ phát sinh một vết nhơ nghiêm trọng đối với phẩm tính Kshatriya. Vì thế, sau khi tự nội tâm suy xét sự cân bằng của lẽ phải, vị hiền triết đã đến gần vua Kushika, bị thúc đẩy bởi khát vọng biến cả thị tộc Kushika thành tro bụi.
