भीष्म उवाच इदं शृणु महाप्राज्ञ धर्मपुत्र महायश: । इतिहासं पुरावृत्तं शरणार्थ महाफलम्‌

bhīṣma uvāca idaṃ śṛṇu mahāprājña dharmaputra mahāyaśaḥ | itihāsaṃ purāvṛttaṃ śaraṇārtha mahāphalam ||

Bhīṣma nói: “Hãy lắng nghe, hỡi bậc đại trí, người con rạng danh của Dharma. Ta sẽ kể cho con một chuyện xưa từ thời cổ, để tỏ rõ đại phúc báo phát sinh từ việc che chở kẻ đến cầu nương tựa.”
