Shloka 39
अतिथीनां च सर्वेषां प्रेष्याणां स्वजनस्य च । तथा शरणकामानां गोप्ता स्यात् स्वागतप्रद:
atithīnāṃ ca sarveṣāṃ preṣyāṇāṃ svajanasya ca | tathā śaraṇakāmānāṃ goptā syāt svāgatapradaḥ ||
Bhīṣma nói: “Người chân chính phải trở thành kẻ che chở và đón tiếp ân cần đối với mọi khách đến nhà, đối với người phục dịch trong gia thất, đối với thân quyến của mình, và cả những ai tìm nơi nương tựa. Lý tưởng đạo đức ở đây là lòng hiếu khách đi đôi với trách nhiệm: tiếp nhận người khác bằng danh dự và bảo đảm an toàn cho họ khi họ nương nhờ nơi mình.”
