ईशान: प्राणद: प्राणो ज्येष्ठ: श्रेष्ठ: प्रजापति: । हिरण्यगर्भो भूगर्भो माधवों मधुसूदन:
īśānaḥ prāṇadaḥ prāṇo jyeṣṭhaḥ śreṣṭhaḥ prajāpatiḥ | hiraṇyagarbho bhūgarbho mādhavo madhusūdanaḥ ||
Bhīṣma nói: Ngài là Īśāna, Chúa tể tối thượng cai quản mọi loài; là đấng ban sinh khí và cũng chính là sinh khí. Là nguyên nhân đầu tiên nên Ngài là bậc trưởng thượng; là sự ưu việt tối cao nên Ngài là bậc tối thắng. Ngài là Prajāpati, Chúa của muôn loài. Ngài là Hiraṇyagarbha, thấm khắp “trứng vàng” vũ trụ như nguồn mạch sáng tạo; và là Bhūgarbha, đấng ôm giữ địa cầu trong lòng. Ngài là Mādhava, phu quân của Lakṣmī; và Madhusūdana, kẻ diệt trừ ác quỷ Madhu.
