अविद्दान् भीरुरल्पार्थे विद्याविक्रमदानजम् । यशः प्रार्थयसे नूनं तेनासि हरिण: कृश:
avidvān bhīrur alpārthe vidyā-vikrama-dāna-jam | yaśaḥ prārthayase nūnaṃ tenāsi hariṇaḥ kṛśaḥ ||
Vị Bà-la-môn nói: “Hẳn là ngươi chưa thật sự uyên bác, vậy mà lại cầu danh tiếng vốn được cho là phát sinh từ học vấn. Dẫu nhút nhát, ngươi vẫn khao khát tiếng tăm do dũng lực; dẫu của cải ít ỏi, ngươi vẫn thèm muốn tiếng ‘đại thí chủ’. Vì thế ngươi gầy guộc và tái nhợt như con nai—bị bào mòn bởi ham danh mà thiếu nội lực tạo nên danh ấy.”
