नहुषोपाख्यानम्—दीपदान-धूप-बलीकर्म-प्रशंसा
Nahūṣa Episode and the Commendation of Lamp-Gifting and Household Offerings
ततः स परिहीणो<भूत् सुरेन्द्रो बलदर्पत: । धूपदीपोदकविधधि न यथावच्चकार ह
tataḥ sa parihīṇo 'bhūt surendro baladarpataḥ | dhūpadīpodakavidhīṁ na yathāvac cakāra ha ||
Bhīṣma nói: “Từ đó, vị chúa tể chư thiên ấy sa ngã khỏi địa vị xứng đáng của mình, say men kiêu hãnh vì sức mạnh. Ông không còn thực hành đúng như pháp định các nghi thức dâng hương, dâng đèn và dâng nước.” Đoạn này nhấn mạnh rằng kiêu mạn bào mòn kỷ luật trong bổn phận thiêng liêng; và sự lơ là ngay cả những lễ dâng cúng hằng ngày giản dị cũng là dấu hiệu của một sự suy đồi sâu xa trong dharma.
