caṃḍovāca | ugrātpratigrahādyasmādbibhyatyete maheśvarāḥ | balīyāṃso durbalavattathā caiva bibhemyaham
Caṇḍa
Tirtha: Prabhāsa-kṣetra
Type: kshetra
Listener: Paśumukha and/or the assembled sages (contextual)
Scene: A powerful figure named Caṇḍa speaks with visible apprehension; behind him, austere Śaiva devotees recoil from heaps of gifts, suggesting the moral weight of ‘ugra-pratigraha’.
Even the strong should fear adharmic gain—improper acceptance of gifts can lead to moral downfall and inner anxiety.
The setting is the Prabhāsa-kṣetra māhātmya section, framing ethical conduct for those moving within Prabhāsa’s sacred landscape.
No ritual is prescribed directly; the verse warns about pratigraha—accepting gifts in a manner contrary to dharma.
