Candra (Soma)
Tirtha: Arbuda-giri śvabhra (cavern) / Arbuda-śṛṅga
Type: cave
Scene: A deity/being splits a mountain horn/peak, opening a profound cavern for austerity; then offers a heartfelt plea to Śiva, ‘Kāma-niṣūdana,’ to grant grace at that very spot.
Fear is transformed into merit when it drives one toward tapas and humble seeking of Śiva’s grace.
The narrative ground for Candrodbheda-tīrtha is laid by describing the split peak and deep cavern created at the site.
Tapas (austerity) is indicated as the purpose of creating the cavern; later verses connect the place to snāna and dāna during eclipse.
