kutsitonāma vikhyāto dvijāyaṃ cāṣṭamo'dhamaḥ | śleṣmamūtrābhisaṃpūrṇaistathā gandhaiśca kutsitaiḥ
Skanda (deduced from Nāgarakhaṇḍa Tīrthamāhātmya narrative style)
Tirtha: Kutsita (Naraka)
Type: kshetra
Listener: dvija (addressed as ‘dvijasattama’/‘best of brāhmaṇas’)
Scene: A cavernous hell labeled ‘Kutsita’: pools and vapors of bodily filth, oppressive stench rendered visually as greenish haze; sinners wade and recoil while Yama’s agents drive them onward.
Impure, adharmic conduct ripens into correspondingly impure suffering; the Purāṇa warns that moral degradation yields degrading results.
This verse is part of a Tīrthamāhātmya chapter but here it specifically describes a naraka; the tīrtha is not named in this shloka.
No direct ritual is prescribed in this verse; it functions as a karmic warning within the larger māhātmya context.
