atastayoḥ priyaṃ kuryādgurorapi ca sarvadā | triṣu teṣu sutuṣṭeṣu tapaḥ sarvaṃ samāpyate
Skanda
Tirtha: Kāśī
Type: kshetra
Scene: A devotee in Kāśī offers respectful service: washing the guru’s feet, then tending to parents; above them a subtle radiance signifies ‘tapas fulfilled’ without dramatic asceticism.
Serving and satisfying mother, father, and guru is treated as the essence and completion of austerity.
The verse is part of Kāśīkhaṇḍa instruction—Kāśī’s sacred tradition frames daily ethics as pilgrimage-based dharma.
The prescription is devotional service (seva) to parents and guru, presented as equivalent to performing austerities.
