Let the Hotṛ offer unto Vanaspati, for he is bound on with the most firmly-pressed, the most tenacious thong. Because Varuṇa embodies ṛta and moral-ritual accountability; the chapter opens by seeking attentive, non-angry protection and release from fault so the later animal and expiatory acts proceed without obstruction.
It sacralizes and seals the yajña-space: the enclosure is guarded, correctly oriented, and protected from ‘leakage’ or intrusion, making the rite a stable microcosm of cosmic order.
They establish a bandhu between time (ṛtu) and chant-structure (stoma), empowering the oblation through that correspondence and culminating in its placement into Indra as vayas (vital vigour).
