Mārkaṇḍeya-varṇanam
The Description of Mārkaṇḍeya
सनक उवाच । एतत्सर्वं निगदितं त्वया पृष्टं द्विजोत्तम । भगवद्भक्तिमाहात्म्यं किमन्यच्छ्रोतुमिच्छसि ॥ ८३ ॥
sanaka uvāca | etatsarvaṃ nigaditaṃ tvayā pṛṣṭaṃ dvijottama | bhagavadbhaktimāhātmyaṃ kimanyacchrotumicchasi || 83 ||
سنک نے کہا—اے بہترین دوج! جو کچھ تم نے پوچھا تھا، یعنی بھگود بھکتی کی عظمت، میں نے بیان کر دیا؛ اب اور کیا سننا چاہتے ہو؟
Sanaka
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It marks a transition point in the Sanaka–disciple dialogue: the teacher confirms that the requested teaching—Bhagavad-bhakti-māhātmya (the glory of devotion to the Lord)—has been fully delivered and invites the seeker to ask for the next step in spiritual inquiry.
By explicitly naming “bhagavad-bhakti-māhātmya,” the verse frames bhakti as a central, authoritative topic worthy of systematic instruction; it also shows bhakti being taught through guru–śiṣya questioning, emphasizing attentive hearing (śravaṇa) as a key devotional method.
The practical emphasis is on disciplined inquiry and śravaṇa (listening) within a structured dialogue; no specific Vedāṅga (like Vyākaraṇa, Jyotiṣa, or Kalpa) is directly taught in this verse.
