Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Āghoramūrti
Role: liberating
It describes the hallmark of mature yoga in Shaiva teaching: when the mind rests in samādhi oriented to Pati (Shiva), the senses naturally turn inward, and the yogin becomes steady like a purifying fire that burns bondage (pāśa) and tendencies.
Linga-worship begins with saguna support—form, mantra, and ritual focus—but its inner aim is absorption in Shiva-consciousness. This verse points to that culmination: the worshipper’s awareness becomes one-pointed, and external sense-activity falls away as the inner linga (the sign of Shiva) shines in samādhi.
It implies pratyāhāra and dhyāna leading to samādhi—often supported in Shaiva practice by japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), wearing rudrākṣa, and applying bhasma (tripuṇḍra) to steady devotion and purify the mind for inward withdrawal.
