Sarga 95: Lamentation in Laṅkā and the Causal Chain of Enmity
नास्तिनःशरणंकश्चिद्भयेमहतितिष्ठताम् ।।।।दावाग्निवेष्टितानांहिकरेणूनांयथावने ।
nāsti naḥ śaraṇaṃ kaścid bhaye mahati tiṣṭhatām | dāvāgniveṣṭitānāṃ hi kareṇūnāṃ yathā vane ||
Sa amin na nakatayo sa gitna ng napakalaking takot, tunay na wala nang kanlungan—gaya ng mga inahing elepante sa gubat na napaliligiran ng nagngangalit na sunog.
"Indeed, there is no protection for us here to stay, as we are like the female elephants in the forest covered by huge wildfire."
The image teaches that when one is enclosed by the results of collective wrongdoing, escape routes vanish. Dharma functions as prevention: ethical restraint earlier prevents the later ‘wildfire’ of consequences.
The women of the rākṣasa community express despair as Rāma’s campaign closes in; they feel trapped with no protector remaining.
