The Exposition of the Nityā-paṭala
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
It illustrates the text’s technical, siddhi-oriented strand (Book 1.3), showing how precise ritual sequencing (krama) is said to produce specific results—here, the subjugation of vetālas—highlighting the Purana’s cataloging of applied ritual sciences.
This verse is not teaching bhakti directly; it contrasts with bhakti by focusing on result-driven ritual power (siddhi). In the broader Purāṇic frame, such attainments are typically treated as secondary to devotion and liberation-focused practice.
The emphasis is on procedural correctness—performing items “in order” (kramāt)—a hallmark of applied ritual method (prayoga), aligning with Vedāṅga-style technicality (especially kalpa-like precision in rites).
