Karma-Phala Rahasya and the Ethics of Dāna (कर्मफल-रहस्यं दानधर्मश्च)

सलिलाशी भवेद्‌ यस्तु सदाग्नि: संस्कृतो द्विज: । मनुं साधयतो राज्यं नाकपृष्ठमनाशके

salilāśī bhaved yas tu sadāgniḥ saṃskṛto dvijaḥ | manuṃ sādhayato rājyaṃ nākapṛṣṭham anāśake ||

Wika ni Bhīṣma: Ang mahusay na nahubog na dvija (ang “dalawang ulit na isinilang”) na nabubuhay sa tubig lamang, laging nag-iingat ng mga banal na apoy at nagsasagawa ng agnihotra, at masigasig sa disiplinadong pagsasanay ng mga mantra, ay nagkakamit ng paghahari habang itinataguyod ang kautusan ni Manu. At sa pagtupad ng panatang pag-aayuno (pag-iwas sa pagkain), nararating ng tao ang daigdig ng langit.
