Tithi-māhātmya (Pratipadā-vrata) tathā Agni-janma-śravaṇa-phala

Verse 1
महातपा उवाच । विष्णोर्विभूतिमाहात्म्यं कथितं ते प्रसङ्गतः । तिथीनां शृणु माहात्म्यं कथ्यमानं मया नृप ॥ १९.१ ॥
มหาตปากล่าวว่า “ในระหว่างการสนทนา ได้อธิบายความยิ่งใหญ่แห่งวิภูติของพระวิษณุแก่ท่านแล้ว บัดนี้ โอ้พระราชา จงฟังมหิมาแห่งตถี (วันจันทรคติ) ซึ่งเราจะกล่าวต่อไป”

इत्तम्भूतो महानग्निर्ब्रह्मक्रोधोद्भवो महान् । उवाच देवं ब्रह्माणं तिथिर्मे दीयतां विभो । यस्यामहं समस्तस्य जगतः ख्यातिमाप्नुयाम् ॥ १९.२ ॥
ดังนั้น อัคนีผู้ยิ่งใหญ่—ผู้ทรงเดช เกิดจากพิโรธของพระพรหม—ได้ทูลพระพรหมว่า “โอ ผู้ทรงอานุภาพ โปรดประทาน ‘ตถี’ แก่ข้าพเจ้า เพื่อข้าพเจ้าจะได้มีเกียรติยศไปทั่วทั้งโลก”

ब्रह्मोवाच । देवानामथ यक्षाणां गन्धर्वाणां च सत्तम । आदौ प्रतिपदा येन त्वमुत्पन्नोऽसि पावक ॥ १९.३ ॥
พระพรหมตรัสว่า “โอ ผู้ประเสริฐยิ่งในหมู่เทวะ ยักษะ และคันธรรพะ โอ ปาวกะ จงบอกเหตุแรกเริ่มที่ทำให้เจ้าบังเกิดขึ้น”
Verse 4
त्वत्पदात् प्रतिपदं चान्या संभविश्यन्ति देवताः । अतस्ते प्रतिपन्नामा तिथिरेषा भविष्यति ॥ १९.४ ॥
จากรอยพระบาทของเจ้า เทวะอื่น ๆ จะบังเกิดขึ้นเป็นลำดับทีละก้าว ดังนั้น ตถีนี้จักเป็นที่รู้จักด้วยนามว่า ‘ประติปทา’ (ก้าวแรก)

तस्यां तिथौ हविष्येण प्राजापत्येन मूर्तिना । होष्यन्ति तेषां प्रीताः स्युः पितरः सर्वदेवताः ॥ १९.५ ॥
ในวันตถีนั้น เขาทั้งหลายบูชาไฟด้วยเครื่องบูชา “หวิษยะ” ตามแบบ “ปราชาปัตยะ”; แล้วปิตฤ (บรรพชน) ของเขาพร้อมทั้งเทพทั้งปวงย่อมพอพระทัย

चतुर्विधानि भूतानि मनुष्याः पशवोऽसुराः । देवाḥ सर्वे सगन्धर्वाः प्रीताः स्युस्तर्पिते त्वयि ॥ १९.६ ॥
มนุษย์ สัตว์ อสูร และเทพทั้งปวงพร้อมคันธรรพ—หมู่สัตว์ทั้งสี่จำพวกนี้—ย่อมยินดีเมื่อท่านได้รับการบำรุงบูชาอย่างสมบูรณ์

यश्चोपवासं कुर्वीत त्वद्भक्तः प्रतिपद्दिने । क्षीराशनो वा वर्त्तेत शृणु तस्य फलं महत् ॥ १९.७ ॥
ผู้ใดเป็นภักตะของท่าน ถืออุโบสถในวันปรติปทา หรือดำรงชีพด้วยน้ำนมเท่านั้น—จงฟังผลอันยิ่งใหญ่ของวัตรนั้น

चतुर्युगानि षट्त्रिंशत् स्वर्लोकेऽसौ महीयते । तेजस्वी रूपसंपन्नो द्रव्यवान् जायते नरः ॥ १९.८ ॥
ตลอดสามสิบหกจตุรยุค เขาย่อมได้รับการสรรเสริญในสวรรค์โลก; แล้วจึงเกิดเป็นมนุษย์ผู้มีรัศมี รูปงามสมบูรณ์ และมั่งคั่งทรัพย์

इह जन्मन्यसौ राजा प्रेत्य स्वर्गे महीयते । तूष्णीं बभूव सोऽप्यग्निर्ब्रह्मदत्ताश्रयं ययौ ॥ १९.९ ॥

य इदं शृणुयान्नित्यं प्रातरुत्थाय मानवः । अग्नेर् जन्म स पापेभ्यो मुच्यते नात्र संशयः ॥ १९.१० ॥
ผู้ใดตื่นแต่เช้าและสดับเรื่องกำเนิดแห่งพระอัคนีนี้เป็นนิตย์ ผู้นั้นย่อมพ้นจากบาปทั้งปวง—ปราศจากข้อสงสัย
