Suta Goswami (narrating the Vayu Samhita teaching to the sages of Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Sthala Purana: Not site-specific; ethical-ritual admonition: karma done ‘anyathā’ (against vidhi) from moha (delusion) yields no true fruit and brings social/religious disrepute.
Role: teaching
The verse teaches that actions driven by moha (delusion) and performed against dharma do not mature into meaningful phala; in Shaiva terms, such misdirected karma tightens pasha (bondage) rather than leading the pashu (soul) toward Pati (Shiva).
Linga-worship is not merely an external act for aihika benefits; it must be aligned with śāstra, devotion, and right intention. When worship is done ‘anyathā’—carelessly or for show—the promised spiritual uplift and merit do not manifest, and the devotee gains only social or inner loss.
Perform Shiva worship with correct vidhi and bhāva—steady japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and if undertaking rites, do them with purity and discipline (e.g., Tripundra/bhasma and Rudraksha as supportive observances), avoiding purely worldly motivation.
