Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Non-local ritual detail: specifies dhūpa and dīpa substances as part of standard upacāra, emphasizing fragrance (gandha) and illumination (prakāśa) as devotional media.
Significance: Dhūpa-dīpa offerings symbolize purification and the offering of one’s inner ‘vāsanā’ (fragrance) and ‘jñāna’ (light) toward Śiva; supports devotional discipline leading to grace.
Offering: dhupa
It teaches that devotion to Śiva is expressed through sāttvika offerings—fragrance (dhūpa) and light (dīpa)—symbolizing purification of the senses and the awakening of inner awareness before Pati (Śiva).
Dhūpa and dīpa are standard upacāras in Liṅga-pūjā; the verse specifies refined materials to honor Saguna Śiva in the consecrated symbol, making the act both reverent and purifying.
Offer incense and light a ghee lamp (preferably with pure ghee and fragrant wick) during Śiva-pūjā while maintaining focused remembrance—ideally alongside japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
