Although Shiva is proclaimed as transcending thought and language (nirguṇa), devotees approach Him through saguna supports like the Śiva-liṅga and mantra; the verse guides worship from form-based devotion toward realization of the formless Supreme.
Japa and dhyāna focused on Shiva as the dispeller of inner darkness—especially Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya)—with a contemplative resolve to move beyond mental constructs into stillness.
