Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Role: teaching
It teaches that mantra is not mere sound but Śiva’s living power; only after propitiating the mantra and Īśvara through disciplined rite does the guru transmit it, making the disciple fit for grace (anugraha) and liberation.
The verse describes a formal Shaiva ritual setting—fire, invocation, and offering—by which Saguna worship (approaching Śiva as Īśvara) sanctifies the disciple, so the mantra becomes a direct means to realize Śiva beyond form.
It indicates mantra-dīkṣā with homa: kindle the sacred fire, offer oblations, invoke and propitiate Śiva, then ceremonially hand the mantra to the disciple—followed by completing the remaining prescribed observances.
