Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
It teaches that mantra is not merely repetition; it becomes spiritually effective when received from a guru and practiced in the right order, aligning the seeker (paśu) toward Shiva (Pati) through disciplined sādhanā.
In Saguna Shiva worship—often centered on the Linga—mantra-japa and pūjā are performed with clear intention and procedure; this verse emphasizes beginning with viniyoga so the worship is properly oriented to Shiva and bears fruit.
It suggests structured mantra-sādhanā under a guru’s guidance, starting with viniyoga (stating the mantra’s purpose, deity, and application) and then proceeding step-by-step into japa and contemplative practice.
