Puraścaraṇa and the Discipline of the Mantra-Sādhaka
nātyantaṃ karaṇīyantu mumukṣormantrasādhanam | kṛtantu tadihānyatra tāsyāpi śubhadaṃ bhavet

Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Role: liberating
It teaches balance for the mumukṣu: liberation is not gained by mechanical excess, but by right understanding and devotion to Pati (Shiva); still, sincere mantra practice remains inherently auspicious and purifying.
In Shaiva Siddhanta, Saguna worship (such as Linga-pūjā with the Panchākṣarī) supports purification and grace; the verse cautions against obsession with technique while affirming that such worship and mantra-japa still yield śubha (good) results.
Moderate, sincere mantra-japa—especially the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—done with bhakti and steadiness; it implies quality over quantity rather than abandoning mantra practice.
