सेवातत्त्वप्रश्नः — The Question of Whom to Serve (Sevā) for the Removal of Suffering
इति ज्ञानं समुत्पन्नं यावन्नैव नरस्य वै । तावच्च कर्मणा देवं शिवमाराधयेन्नरः
iti jñānaṃ samutpannaṃ yāvannaiva narasya vai | tāvacca karmaṇā devaṃ śivamārādhayennaraḥ
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Sthala Purana: General soteriological rule: until jñāna dawns, one should perform Śiva-ārādhana through karma (nitya/naimittika duties, pūjā, vrata), treating ritual as a purificatory ladder rather than an end.
Significance: Validates temple-based and household Śiva worship as an upāya for those not yet established in liberating knowledge; emphasizes gradual ripening toward grace (anugraha).
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: nurturing
Offering: naivedya
It teaches a Shaiva Siddhanta progression: until liberating knowledge (jñāna) dawns, one should follow dharmic action and devotional worship of Śiva, letting disciplined karma purify the soul and prepare it for realization of Pati (Śiva).
When higher knowledge is not yet steady, Saguna worship—especially reverent pūjā to Śiva in accessible forms such as the Liṅga—provides a concrete path of practice (karma) that matures devotion and inner purity, supporting eventual insight into Śiva’s supreme reality.
It points to karma-based Śiva-upāsanā: regular Śiva-pūjā, mantra-japa (e.g., Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), and observances like vrata and temple worship, performed consistently until inner clarity and knowledge arise.
