देवस्तुतिः (Deva-stuti) — “Hymn of the Devas / Divine Praise”
साञ्जलिर्नतशीर्षो हि स तुष्टाव सुभक्तितः । रोमोद्गमो महानासीद्गिरेः प्रेमाश्रवोऽपतन्
sāñjalirnataśīrṣo hi sa tuṣṭāva subhaktitaḥ | romodgamo mahānāsīdgireḥ premāśravo'patan
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Depicts classical bhakti-lakṣaṇas (añjali, bowed head, horripilation, tears). In Śaiva Siddhānta, such melting of the heart signals ripening of the paśu for Śiva’s anugraha.
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It presents the classic marks of mature bhakti—humility (bowed head), reverence (añjali), and spontaneous sāttvika-bhāvas (thrills and tears). In Shaiva Siddhanta, such devotion purifies the soul (paśu) and loosens the bonds (pāśa), turning the heart toward Pati, Lord Shiva.
The verse emphasizes personal, Saguna-oriented worship—praising Shiva with heartfelt devotion. Linga worship similarly uses outward acts (añjali, namaskāra, stotra) to concentrate the mind and awaken inner surrender, making the devotee receptive to Shiva’s grace.
Practice añjali with a bowed head while reciting Shiva-stotra or the Panchakshara mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), allowing devotion to become inwardly felt; the teaching is to cultivate sincere bhakti rather than mere external form.
