Sthala Purana: Devas and ṛṣis converge upon Himācala’s vicinity—an archetypal ‘devatā-samāgama’ motif that often precedes a revelation, boon, or arrangement concerning Śiva and Śakti.
Significance: Models the idea that even devas seek auspicious loci (kṣetra) and approach dharmic hosts when a Śaiva cosmic purpose is to unfold.
It signals a divinely ordained turning point: when devas and great rishis converge at a sacred place, the Purana indicates that an important Shiva-centered event is about to unfold, highlighting how cosmic order aligns around Pati (Śiva) and His śakti.
Though the verse is narrative, it frames Saguna Shiva’s līlā-context: the assembly near the mountain prepares the ground for Shiva’s manifest dealings in the world, which devotees approach through sacred places, forms, and rites—often culminating in Linga-oriented worship in the broader Shiva Purana.
The takeaway is tīrtha-bhāva and satsanga: approach sacred spaces with reverence and join the company of the wise; practically, devotees may pair such pilgrimage-mindset with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) as they approach a shrine or holy mountain.
