मकराक्षस्य निर्गमनम्

The Deployment of Makaraksha and Ravana’s Fury

अद्यरामंवधिष्यामिलक्ष्मणं च निशाचराः ।शाखामृगं च सुग्रीवंवानरांश्चशरोत्तमैः ।।।।

adya rāmaṃ vadhiṣyāmi lakṣmaṇaṃ ca niśācarāḥ | śākhāmṛgaṃ ca sugrīvaṃ vānarāṃś ca śarottamaiḥ ||

โอ้เหล่านิศาจร! วันนี้ข้าจะสังหารพระรามและพระลักษมณ์ ทั้งสุครีพ วานรผู้เที่ยวอยู่ตามกิ่งไม้ และหมู่วานรทั้งปวง ด้วยศรอันประเสริฐยิ่งของข้า

The verse illustrates how arrogance and violent intent (without just cause) stand opposed to dharma. In the Ramayana’s moral universe, speech that delights in slaughter signals inner adharma.

Makarākṣa boasts to fellow Rākṣasas that he will kill the leaders of Rāma’s alliance using superior arrows.

By contrast to the boast, the virtue implied for dharmic warriors is humility and restraint—strength guided by righteous purpose rather than contempt.
