kṛṣṇāṣṭamyāṃ tu māghasya bhadrakālīṃ samarcayet | bhaktito vairivṛndaghnīṃ sarvakāmapradāyinīm || 90 ||
Narada (teaching in the Narada–Sanatkumara dialogue context)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: vira
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It recommends a time-specific sādhana—worship of Bhadrakālī on Māgha Kṛṣṇāṣṭamī—presenting Devi as both protective (destroyer of hostile forces) and beneficent (giver of desired results) when approached with bhakti.
The verse makes the inner disposition primary: Bhadrakālī is to be worshiped “bhaktitaḥ” (with devotion), indicating that sincere devotional intent is central to the efficacy of ritual worship.
It uses tithi- and month-based timing (Kṛṣṇāṣṭamī in Māgha), reflecting practical calendrical/astronomical application aligned with Jyotiṣa (Vedāṅga) for scheduling rites.
