FAQs

This verse is primarily dharma-śāstric, stressing restraint and purity; indirectly it supports self-mastery (indriya-nigraha) as a prerequisite for higher realization of Ātman taught elsewhere in the Kurma Purāṇa.

No direct yogic technique is taught here; the emphasis is on ethical discipline and prāyaścitta, which function as preparatory purification (śuddhi) supporting later yoga and devotion in the Purāṇa’s broader teaching.

It does not directly address Śiva–Viṣṇu unity; it belongs to the Purāṇa’s dharma section, which undergirds the same moral and ascetic foundation assumed by both Śaiva and Vaiṣṇava paths presented in the text.
