Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Tirtha-Mahatmya","secondary_vidya":"Dharmashastra","practical_application":"Connects Kurukṣetra residence with ‘fourfold liberation’ claims and underscores the pragmatic dharma-need for progeny to perform pitṛ-rescue rites; informs householders’ priorities (gṛhastha-dharma).","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Description","entry_title":"Kurukṣetra-vāsa as caturvidhā mukti; Pitṛs’ longing for a son","lookup_keywords":["Kurukṣetra-vāsa","caturvidhā-mukti","pitṛ-bhaya","naraka","putra"],"quick_summary":"The verse praises Kurukṣetra residence as yielding a fourfold liberation framework, and states that ancestors fearing hell depend on a son for deliverance through rites."}

It teaches tirtha-vidhi in principle: residence/sojourn at Kurukṣetra is presented as a structured (fourfold) path to liberation, and it connects pilgrimage merit with Pitṛ-related duties (putra as performer of śrāddha and deliverer of ancestors).
It links multiple domains—sacred geography (tīrtha-māhātmya), soteriology (mukti), and social-religious law (pitṛ obligation and the importance of a son)—showing how the Agni Purāṇa integrates pilgrimage, afterlife doctrine, and ritual duty in a single teaching.
It frames Kurukṣetra as a high-merit field where liberation is attainable, while also underscoring karmic responsibility toward ancestors: the lineage’s ritual continuity (through a son) is portrayed as a safeguard against naraka for the Pitṛs.
