It preserves a standard Purāṇic technique: legitimizing a ritual or ethical observance (vrata) by citing mythic precedents—Rudra’s defeat of Tripura and a cosmic act attributed to the speaking deity—thereby embedding practice within the wider Sanskrit narrative tradition.
No specific terrestrial location is named; the verse references cosmic/mythic settings (Tripura as a mythic stronghold; samudra as the ocean) rather than a clearly identifiable historical site.
The verse frames disciplined observance (vrata) as a validated practice by appealing to authoritative exemplars, emphasizing continuity of conduct across mythic time rather than issuing a sectarian command.
