वसिष्ठो नाम देवर्षिः पितामहसमुद्भवः । स पूर्वं भूतलं प्राप्तस्तपस्तेपे सुदारुणम्
vasiṣṭho nāma devarṣiḥ pitāmahasamudbhavaḥ | sa pūrvaṃ bhūtalaṃ prāptastapastepe sudāruṇam
வசிஷ்டன் என்னும் தேவ ரிஷி ஒருவர் இருந்தார்; அவர் பிதாமகன் பிரம்மாவிலிருந்து தோன்றியவர். முன்னொரு காலத்தில் பூமிக்கு வந்து மிகக் கடுமையான தவம் செய்தார்।
