Listener: dvija/brāhmaṇa
Scene: A caretaker draws water from an endowed well and distributes it to travelers; a scribe reads a grant; the donor’s name is inscribed; the merit is shown as a subtle ‘stream’ linking donor, beneficiaries, and ancestors.
Public endowments generate ongoing merit; even beneficiaries partake in a portion of merit through rightful use.
No specific tīrtha is mentioned; the teaching applies broadly to charitable infrastructure connected with dharma and pilgrimage.
Maintain and honor grants/endowments properly; rightful use and non-revocation are implied ethical conditions for accruing merit.
