इति स्तुत्वा महादेवं निपेतुर्दंडवत्क्षितौ । प्रत्युवाच तदा शंभुर्वरदोऽस्मि किमिच्छति
iti stutvā mahādevaṃ nipeturdaṃḍavatkṣitau | pratyuvāca tadā śaṃbhurvarado'smi kimicchati
இவ்வாறு மகாதேவனை ஸ்துதித்து அவர்கள் தண்டவத் நமஸ்காரமாகப் பூமியில் விழுந்தனர். அப்போது சம்பு கூறினார்—“நான் வரதன்; நீங்கள் என்ன விரும்புகிறீர்கள்?”
