Vāyu-jaya (Prāṇa-vijaya) and Yogic Mastery over Time — वायुजय (प्राणविजय) तथा कालजय
तेन ज्ञात्वा दिनं योगी प्राणायामपरः स्थितः । स जयत्यागतं कालं मासार्द्धेनैव सुंदरि
tena jñātvā dinaṃ yogī prāṇāyāmaparaḥ sthitaḥ | sa jayatyāgataṃ kālaṃ māsārddhenaiva suṃdari
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
Cosmic Event: Kāla as the press of mortality is treated as conquerable through regulated prāṇa and disciplined time-measure.
The verse teaches that disciplined prāṇāyāma steadies the yogin’s inner currents and loosens the grip of kāla (time as limitation and mortality), indicating rapid inner transformation when practice is steady and correctly measured.
In the Shiva Purana’s Shaiva framework, yogic discipline supports Saguna Shiva worship by purifying the practitioner’s body-mind so attention can rest unwaveringly on Shiva (often through dhyāna on the Linga), preparing the soul (paśu) to turn toward Pati beyond bondage (pāśa).
It directly recommends steady prāṇāyāma (regulated breath practice) with correct time-measure; as a Shaiva takeaway, it is commonly paired with mantra-japa (e.g., Panchākṣarī) and meditative focus on Shiva for concentrated practice.
